Portfolio Post

My portfolio looks very nice because it has animations and has very good explaining of my standards. But at the same time my examples are linked to anything due to the fact that they were only pictures and it wouldn't let me open them so i couldn't link them. But i really had good examples to show for each of my standards. And lastly it really explained graphically how I felt on how I approached the standards.

Angry Letter draft

Dear AT&T Administrations

My family and I have been well been more than satisfied customers for the past 3 years. You have given us amazing phones such as the iPhone 4, View, and others we have been accustomed now to rely on you more and more for new and improving phones. The iPhone 4 has been a sure upgrade from our phones that we got from Verizon, not to mention such the high quality of performance we get out of it.

However, we have had some problems over the past couple months we have experienced problems where our phone service has dropped resulting in missed calls, missed texts, and not being able to go on the internet when it is needed. I have tried two different phones within the past 2 years, which was the iPhone 4, and the View, and it happened to both phones. But at first I believe that it wasn’t a problem with the View as it happened only a few times. But with the iPhone 4 which I got on October 17^th it has happened about 10 times, most recently in the past week (November 7-11) where my phone has dropped service and I had to restart it and when I had restarted it, it showed that I had a missed call, along with 4 unread text messages.

Also, I think that with the amount that we are paying for our bill as of now, which is $110 a month, I believe that we deserve the best, complete service that we don’t have to deal with dropped and missed call, missed text messages that are important, and having to restart our phones just for it to work..

Through all of these troubles in the past 2 years, we have had a lot of good assistants giving us helpful tips on what would we should do when it occurs. The assistances were as nice as they come, and very knowledgeable about their technology, I do not feel it is the phone or the assistance advice that is causing the phone to all of a sudden lose signal as it has happened numerous times.

I do not have any problems on your policies and what you can do with your phone as they are the best of the best, but I do feel that you guys should consider maybe updating or maybe even changing your signal technology that can assure everyone a good experience with their phones.

Risky Business

            Media affects most teens, either if it’s by music, television, computer social networks such as facebook and tumblr, and lastly by video games. But what are the consequences to this increase in violence in media? Things can escalate to depression to suicide.  So media is a main cause for depression.

            Some people believe that media aren’t the cause for a lot of kids’ depression. They argue that since not all programs are dealing with wrongdoing. Also they believe that there are parental controls on the website their kids look at. Also the music they listen to are usually heard on the radio and then looked up, since the song on the radio is usually edited. And lastly because most of the video games and movies are rated so they can allow or not allow their children the opportunity to be influenced by media.

            But on the other hand there are others that believe that media is the cause for teen depression. For example a study on teenagers that listen to music featured in the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine researchers have found that out of 106 teenagers, 46 of them had already been linked to depression, which is about 44%.  Another study from the Archives of General Psychiatry taken by Brian A. Primack from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1995 by 4,142 teenagers reported that teens on average spend 5.68 hours of media per day, including 2.3 hours of television, 0.62 hours of videocassettes, 0.41 hours of computer games, and 2.34 hours of radio. Another survey was taken seven years later and the teenagers were screened at the age of 21, and 308 (7.4%) had developed symptoms consistent with depression. And lastly there was a study taken by Nancy Schimelpfening from about.com have found that 22% of teens log onto their favorite social media site more than 10 times a day, more than half of teens log on at least once per day, 75% have cell phones with 25% of those with social media, 54% for texting, and 24% for instant messaging.

            So teen depression shouldn’t be taken lightly because how everything is technology now days, teenagers have to be careful on exactly hat they do because you never know what could cause depression.

           

College Essay

            Hello my name is Brayton Sakai, and I’m interested in applying to your college in the medial department.

             Some things that I really enjoy are spending time with people either old or young, learning new things each and everyday, and finding new things about myself. Some personal experiences that make me the person I am are was I really love being around people, I like to go to hospitals since my stepdad works there. I like volunteering with either helping patients with whatever they need or maybe just simply brightening up their day.  And even though they may be ill or sick I just love seeing people smile even for the smallest things. Other experiences that that prove that I learn something everyday about myself or the world is that life always gives me obstacles that make me who I am today. Some examples are that if it’s either I’m having a bad day as things aren’t going my way I have to persevere to pick myself up and not let things bring me down. Or if it’s losing a family member I have to remember that I have to think to myself that they would want me to succeed in life even though it’s without them. And lastly if it’s a baseball game I have to work hardly and practice hardly to make myself the ball player that I want to be.

            Some things that make me stand out as an individual is that I really I really work hard in everything I do either if it’s in baseball, school, or other activities. Even though I may not be a 4.0 student I still study hard, and try to get the best possible grade I can get, even if it’s going in for help when I’m busy or asking my friends to tutor me. Also what makes me stand out is that I am easy to get along with. I never grumble if someone tells me to do something, I just go and do it right away even it may be difficult. Also I always shoot to be the best person that I want to be even if my goals and dreams may be impossible I tend to try to work towards then to make myself a better person. And lastly I just enjoy making the best things that I’m given even if it’s not the best.

Blog Revisons

            Throughout these past 2 years I have been in Menemac I have learned so much about technology it's amazing. To show what I have learned I have decided to showcase in my blog. For example,I decided to change my blog's title from Today's learners are tomorrow's future into Words are a way of Life because in everyday life we need words to communicate with each other whether is telling someone directions, or letting out your emotions. Also I have changed my background picture into me with a background of a beach because usually the beach is where I like to let everything loose because it's so peaceful you don't even worry about everything as you lie in the soothing sand, with the wooshing of waves coming in. Also I changed my blog achieves to show that now I'm more organized instead of having to look through my whole blog just to find something,which my take forever.

Coming of Age 1st draft

         Rinnnnnng,was all I remember that day. Saying good-byes at school and walking to my friend Drake's house,playing video games.
         Ahhhhh, just waking up from bed from a long day before. I got ready for summer school that morning with a tingling feeling like something wrong was going to happen. But I thought to myself nothing was going to happen.
         As I got to school, all my thought sank away as we were filled with conversations with laughter and happiness. Rinnnng,the bell rung signaling that school started. "What another wonderful day at P.E." I thought to myself. The period was filled with laughter and excitement as we played pickel-ball. After that everything felt like went downhill. The sky was turned pitch-black like it was going to pour.
         "Ayee Drake,where you like meet?" as I talked to him to take me home. As I got into the car, the same feeling ran through as something bad had just happened,but I tried getting over it but I couldn't. When we went to Drake's house, my dad was waiting for me in his car. I tried calling my mom, but she wouldn't answer and from there I knew something was wrong!
         The path he was taking me was so familiar. A long ride into the dark,thunderous sky on the Pali to my Grandma's house. "Your mom told me to pick you up!" my dad said. But I just sat in the car silenced, and stunned. Tears started to roll down my face aleardy like a drizzle.
         As soon as we got to my Grandma's house, things just became a daze as I ran into the house like a freight train, nothing stopping me. I gave my Grandpa a big hug as if he was still alive. But he just lay there helplessly,and motionless. My mom had to pull me aside after a good 3 minutes I was hugging my Grandpa. First she gave me a big hug,then she said to me "It's alright, now he's not suffering."Yeah your right" as I said weeping in tears.
         I should've known that something like this was going to happen. I should've known when I got those weird feelings in the morning and after school. I should've known when my dad rushed me down the Pali.
        But even though my Garndpa isn't with us, I learned alot of things from it. First that even though he had cancer and was getting worse, he still lived his life as if there was no tomorrow. Another thing was that even though people may doubt you,like people doubted on how much time he had, he proved them wrong by fighting to make wonderful things happen. And lastly if you have people that care about you, use them wisely because you never know what could happen.

Position Statement Mini Essay: Tourist Safety

            Tourist must be responsible for their own safety. One reason is because they must have some common sense. Another reason is because they should research the possible safety requirements needed to go to tourist attractions.
            Tourist must have some common sense because they should already know the possible consequences that the place contains. For example, Who goes on a blowhole and dances with the waves coming in?! People should be more aware of what things are happening around them instead of just thinking of themselves. Some things they should notice is like how big the waves are coming in, or how sharp the rocks are, or previous incidents that have already happened at attractions such as in 2002 a 18 year old had straddled a blowhole and got blow up 3-5 feet in the air and came down injured. Then in July 15, 2011 another guy, David Potts was dancing on the blowhole while getting swept away with the strong currents. Like people, come on now let's have a little more common sense now!
             The other reason is to research about the possible safety requirements that are needed for your attractions. For example, a hike you should know the things you are going to take such as liquids, covered shoes. You should also see if it is an official hike that alot of people go on, unlike in 2006 two women, Paula Ramirez and Elizabeth Brem both fell off a cliff near Opaekaa Falls on Kauai. Several guidelines and Internet sites had listed it as an unofficial hike and no public trails leading to the falls, wouldn't you think they would think it's an unsafe environment? Well they just went ahead and followed the trail and even though there was a sign that said it was unsafe they went anyways again! So people should be more aware on what the possible consequences are for the attractions they are going to.
               So through all these disastrous events that have happened to tourists, it also show how much they were prepared and how much common sense they have. Apparently they weren't taking the right steps to create environment for them and people around them. So please people let's have a bit of common sense and have a clue on what were are getting ourselves into before we go to our attractions.

GLO Portfolio

What piece of writing did you like best in my portfolio and why?   The piece of writing that I liked best in your portfolio would be that of your descriptions of how you can be a certain GLO was referenced within the examples.  It seems to have reflected in your products on what kind of GLO you are trying to pursue; under normal circumstances these are not usually shown in your everyday interaction.

What did you like about my portfolio and sharing and what would you like to see me improve on?  The part of your portfolio that I liked was your presentation on the various slides and your ability to take the time to prepare each slide and showing your evidence to your main point. I would like to see that you avoid waiting and putting things off until the deadline date.  There may be unforeseen circumstances that come along that will prevent last minute submissions of your work and to avoid this, taking the time to prepare ahead of time will help out in these circumstances.

Which of the GLO's do you feel was most successful for me?  I believe that the most successful GLO that you had was being a community contributor. You really had good evidence to back up why you felt you were good at it and to explain what it meant.
 
Which of the GLO's would you like me to improve on in the coming semester?  I would like to see you improve on self directed learner,because you need to learn how to manage your time better.You can't be waiting until the last minute on your projects as stated in your writing portfolio.
